Residence for students, teachers and athletes at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. This project emerges as an expansion of rehabilitation to the new Center of Students of this university by the architect Andrés Mignucci Giannoni. Its original design was in charge of architect Henry Klumb and opened its doors for the first time in 1961. After a long season closed and with a remarkable state of deterioration and abandonment arises the need for it’s rehabilitation. Highlighting its importance through freedom of movement in its interior spaces, which allows spaces of greater fluidity and the use of its structure as a predominant aesthetic resource in space. It is a predominantly vertical structure and is attached to the main structure (Student Center). The building stands out in its physical environment before a great variety of natural and constructed elements of landscape. An important challenge for this project was the design of a new direct vehicular entrance to the structure, highlighting the natural elements and their fluidity of pedestrian circulation.
